8th Annual Lanai Keiki Catch Tournament

May 5, 2012

The 8th Annual Lanai Keiki Catch Tournament at Manele Bay again had a conservation objective which promoted catch and release if the fish were not destined for the dinner table. The kids were again very much energized for the free event that covered both a night and a day of fishing which allowed them to catch a wide variety of species. There were many categories for all age groups which allowed most of the kids a chance to win. The event allowed for a special "family time" bonding-type outing outside of the home that is sorely lacking in our normal rushed daily routine. The free raffle for all the participating kids allowed each to be a "winner". Other attractions, like outreach by the BCH project, the Pacific Islands Fisheries Group, and a Maui gyotaku artist, provided more excitement for the kids and adults. This was a very special annual event that was looked forward to by all.
