The BCH project partnered with the Pacific Islands Fisheries Group (PIFG) to provide information and education on responsible fishing. Volunteers from various groups and clubs within PIFG came together to organize another Boys and Girls Club fishing education outreach. On a partly cloudy Friday morning, the students rode their big yellow school bus to the Hoomaluhia Botanical Garden. Three educational stations were set up so students could complete the following: Hawaii fishing rules and regulations, fishing and diving equipment, and knot tying and barbless circle hooks. The kids had fun learning new things at each station before lunch. The main event was fishing in the impoundment using their newfound knowledge and equipment. It was only bamboo pole fishing but for these novices it was all they needed to have fun and discover a new passion in life. More pictures of the event can be seen here.
