Friends of Kewalo Basin

June 2, 2012

The Friends of Kewalo Basin, a 501(c)(3) grass roots organization of recreational users of the area get together every year for a clean-up event. An estimated 150 people showed up in its fifth year to help out on this work day which resulted in the Kewalo Basin Park being immaculate from their volunteer efforts. As usual, there were prize giveaways, drawings, lunch, educational booths, and announcements on issues pertaining to the Kewalo area. The project was very fortunate as the organizers felt that it was important to educate the public on barbless hooks since there is a lot of fishing at the park. Barbless partners Earl Miyamoto and Lisa White from the State Marine Wildlife Program had a great time handing out project information and free packs of barbless circle hooks.
