The 4th Annual Eastside Challenge

January 13, 2013

The 4th annual Eastside Challenge had a total count of 75 anglers, of which 39% signed up for the "Barbless Challenge". Not surprisingly the majority of the fish were oio. Only 1 omilu was weighed in and there was only 1 ulua. The format for the tournament's weigh-in is a bit different from many tournaments. The anglers check in their fish early and get their assorted goodies. The coolers are lined up and the weighing is done one after another from the start of the weigh-in time until all are completed. This way everyone can see all of the fish. This is the same format that the Eastside Outcastaz use annually at their GT Masters Cup tournament at the Hawaii Ocean Expo (April 13-14, 2013). If you are there from the beginning you get to see all of the fish with no interruptions.

The barbless anglers weighed in 3 fish. James "Braddah" Fujimori got a nice 5.33-lb oio. Klint Oshima weighed in a respectable 3.73-lb oio. Lastly Glenn Manuel and son Scott brought a 3.21-lb white pap- io to the scales. Congratulations to these lucky anglers.
