KKC Invitational Oʻio Tournament

November 6, 2011

This is the first year that the Kakaako Kasting Club has invited the BCH project to host a "Barbless Challenge" in their traditional fall invitational oʻio jackpot tournament. In this first year, there were 80 participants of which 30% signed up for the "Barbless Challenge". In an effort to promote responsible fishing and releasing small fish, the tournament's minimum qualifying weight was 5 lbs across the board for all species. This oʻio tournament was won by Francis Ganitano with an 8.4 lb barbless sharp jaw oʻio. Fourth place was won by Garrett Yokoyama with a 7.05 lb barbless round jaw oʻio. The barbless anglers weighed in 7 oʻio, 1 omilu, and 1 white ulua. The largest barbless ulua was a 36.4 lb white ulua that was the 4th largest of the tournament (unfortunately it placed out of the money).
