Hawaii Fisheries Input-Output (I/O) Model

The main objective of this project was to understand the linkages between fisheries and the other sectors and groups of enterprises that make up the economy. Understanding these linkages helps economists analyze how changes in one sector affect the rest of the economy. The Hawaii Fisheries Input-Output (I/O) Model, updated in 1998, 2005, and again in 2011, has been used to analyze fishery regulations such as the temporary closure of the Hawaii swordfish fishery and effects of fishery regulations on the fisheries industry as well as other sectors of Hawaii's economy. This project was completed in cooperation with the University of Hawaii Joint Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Research.
