Life History Program

The Life History Program conducts life history studies on age and growth, reproduction and fecundity, migration and movement, and mortality of fish species caught in commercial and recreational fisheries to provide estimates of vital rates and other life history parameters for stock assessments and ecosystem-based management. The research involves resource survey cruises and field studies using a variety of sampling gears, laboratory studies of biological specimens, and collection of life history data at fish markets and on commercial fishing vessels.

In its reef fish research, the Life History Program collaborates with the PIFSC Coral Reef Ecosystem Division to study coral reef fish community structure and responses of reef fish populations to anthropogenic factors.
