Documenting Traditional Knowledge of Marine Resource Use and Management in the Marianas Archipelago

In November 2009, staff from local agencies in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), including the Department of Fish and Wildlife, Division of Environmental Quality, and Coastal Resources Management Division, were trained in interview methodology by former Social Research Project Manager Arielle Levine. With additional assistance from Steve McKagan (NMFS Pacific Islands Regional Office), local agency staff interviewed elder fishers from Saipan, Rota, and Tinian islands, and contracted staff assisted in conducting interviews with fishermen in Guam.
