NOAA's Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center (PIFSC) is moving to the brand new NOAA Inouye Regional Center (IRC) at Ford Island, in Pearl Harbor. In this historic transition, we are leaving our present facility adjacent to the University of Hawaii (Manoa) campus on Dole Street, our primary home for over 63 years, and our other research locations at Kewalo Basin (over 55 years) and Kapiolani Boulevard (over 10 years). Our Aiea biological laboratory has already moved to the IRC. Almost all of the other NOAA offices on Oahu except for the National Weather Service forecast office are moving into the IRC as well. This is an exciting time but it means lots of changes are in order.

  • Our Kapiolani office will close on February 27, 2014.
  • Our Dole Street laboratory will close on March 5, 2014.
  • Our Kewalo laboratory will close on March 11, 2014.

Staff from these locations will be moving the week of their facility closing, so catching up with us that week by anything other than e-mail and cell phone may be problematic. We should be into our new offices the day after our current facilities close. Our staff will be fully moved into the IRC by March 13, 2014.

We will have a new address and new phone numbers.

NOAA Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center
Daniel K. Inouye Regional Center
1845 Wasp Boulevard, Building 176
Honolulu, HI 96818

Our new telephone numbers will be available from the NOAA directory at: https://nsd.rdc.noaa.gov/nsd/search. You can also call our old main number, (808) 983-5300, which will provide a message with the new contact information for 60 days after the relocation.

We will post new information as we settle in, but in the meantime, please wish us luck in the transition to our new, world class facility.

Aloha,

Sam Pooley, Director

Directions to the PIFSC at the NOAA IRC:

  • From Kamehameha Hwy, turn onto the Ford Island Bridge
  • Continue onto Ford Island Blvd.
  • At the traffic circle, take the 2nd exit onto Chafee Blvd.
  • After approximately 0.3 miles, turn right onto the Daniel K. Inouye Regional Center main parking area
  • Proceed to the center of the IRC building to access the main entrance

Note to visitors:

  • Ford Island is a U.S. Navy base and therefore has restricted access. Visitors to IRC are welcome, and in fact we look forward to hosting them, but there are procedures to follow before access can be granted. If you wish to visit the facility or you are planning to meet with PIFSC staff, please contact PIFSC staff at least 7 days in advance of your visit to make arrangements and familiarize yourself with access protocols to Ford Island and the facility.
