Coral Reef Program Establishes Scientific Liaisons with Partners in the Pacific Islands Region

A big part of the Center’s strategy for coral reef research is building close ties with local partners throughout our Pacific Islands Region jurisdiction: American Samoa, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), Guam, Hawaii, and the Pacific Remote Island Areas. To improve communication between Center scientists and resource managers and research colleagues in the Region, the Coral Reef Ecosystem Division (CRED) has appointed several staff to act as liaisons with partner agencies in various parts of the Region. The designated liaisons are:

All liaisons are CRED scientists employed by the University of Hawaii Joint Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Research. In their capacity as scientific liaisons, they are the primary points of contact between the local agencies and CRED. They will remain based in Honolulu, help plan and execute PIFSC field operations in their assigned jurisdictions, and travel to these locales as needed to improve communication with partners and delivery of CRED products and services.
