New Booklet Summarizes Status of Coral Reef Ecosystems in the Marianas

In September 2010, the Center’s Coral Reef Ecosystem Division distributed a new information booklet, titled Coral Reef Ecosystems of the Mariana Archipelago: a 2003–2007 Overview, at the U.S. Coral Reef Task Force meeting held in Saipan, Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas (CNMI). The booklet was produced in response to specific requests from marine resource management agencies in Guam and CNMI. It summarizes coral reef conditions in the Mariana Archipelago as observed during Pacific Reef Assessment and Monitoring Program surveys conducted in 2003, 2005, and 2007. The booklet was derived from a more extensive document, scheduled for publication by PIFSC in 2011; the larger report will provide a detailed, comprehensive, integrated assessment of coral reef ecosystems in the Marianas.
